You may well be considering having a website for your business, project or personal venture, but unsure really why? Whether you have a 1-2 page with some information, contact details and your company logo on, or a fully comprehensive online shop, in this article I’m going to outline some of the benefits of having a web presence for your business.
Cost effective
Okay, so from the outlay a website might seem expensive, but in the long run it can save you money, especially if you have a content management system (so you can update the website yourself).
You can shout about your latest offers, products and news without the need for printing costs every time you change something about your business.
You are accessible 24/7
Your customers can visit your business online at any time of the day, any time of the year. Customers can browse your products, make orders, and find out where you are based.
Point of reference
The first thing a lot of people do when looking for a business in the area, whether they are locals or just visiting the area, is search online.
If you own a restaurant for example, having a website for your business is ideal as customers can find out where you are, have a look at the menu and make a reservation (either through a phone call or book online).
Having an official reference point brings confidence to your customers so they know they have found the right place.
It’s up-to-date
You can update your website any time of the year, as often as you like (daily, weekly, monthly) with minimal or no costs. You can display latest offers, announcements or news to keep people in the loop about what is going on with your business.
It’s interactive
You can get your customers involved with your business in various ways, just some of the few are:
- Keeping a blog which users can comment on
- Having a forum where users can discuss events and products
- Photo galleries – if you have an event you can get users to submit photos
- Subscriptions to newsletters
- Competitions
It will keep people coming back to your site, and get people talking about your business.
Market Research
Most hosting packages come with statistics letting you know how many unique visits you get to your website, which is very useful information if you’re planning to sell advertising on your site.
Getting your website set up with Google Webtools will also allow you to track how people are finding your site (what search terms people are using) amongst other useful statistics. If in doubt about how to set this up, speak to your web designer.
Hopefully this will give you a good run down of what a website can do for your business. Feel free to add anymore benefits that I may have missed off the list.
