About this production
Another production made as part of our degree. The brief was to create a documentary under the theme of ‘Hidden Chichester’ and publish it to Channel 4′s FourDocs (now discontinued) so it had to be betwen 3-5 minutes.
So, we discovered the Hash House Harriers who meet fortnightly in Chichester, go running and have a few cheeky beverages on the way.
Rather than just go and observe, we decided to send fellow film maker Rachel in to join them and find out what it’s all about.
On the first day, we were late. Rachel, all geared up with a bottle of brandy and coke and a yellow t-shirt (the Chichester HHH colours) tried to catch up, but insted we got lost and didn’t experience much of a Hash run at all.
Still in the spirit, she had a run and a swift half (of a bottle that is).
We turned up to further events, and she did actually take part in the whole run, even on possibly one of the windiest day of the year (which consequently blew our camera mic-cover away), and the rainiest day (filming under the cover of a jeep and an umbrella).
All in all it was a fun experience, and we decided to go with first impressions with our final film and use the footage from the first day. On reflection a bit more information regarding the actual Hash House Harriers and some interiews wouldn’t have gone a-miss, but hey, it was our first documentary and we enjoyed it.
